Late one evening in July a flash of light in the sky over the French Alps coincides with the appearance of a mysterious couple, who it is claimed have miraculous abilities. No one knows where they came from, or even if they are human.
Dr Marsha Hunt, an American anthropologist is sent to investigate. She has been trying to prove the existence of relict populations of humans, possibly either Neanderthals or Homo erectus, based on sightings from high in the Caucuses mountain range. At the pinnacle of her research, whilst she is making ground breaking discoveries, she is suddenly forced to postpone her work to take on this new venture.
She has been seconded to a Scottish university where her research has been financed by a Scottish multimillionaire, Angus McVitie who is disillusioned with both his life and his apathetic son, James. A condition of his financial support is that James McVitie must accompany Dr. Hunt on her expeditions in the faint hope that this may stimulate his unimpassioned attitude towards anything other than drinking and women.

What Marsha Hunt believed would be a couple of days spent in France uncovering a media driven hype, develops into a remarkable adventure where the most unlikely people cross paths and risk everything to protect this couple from the world.
This improbable alliance of a few individuals feel compelled to do this, although they are unclear as to why, just an intuition that this couple must survive and remain free. The odds are stacked against them as different governments are intent on their capture to exploit their extraordinary abilities, and an extremist religious group is resolved to kill them as they consider they are an anathema to their beliefs, sparked by stories of a second coming in the West.

Unbeknown to everyone is that this couple has the answer to why we as a species are bent on destruction, both of each other and the environment. They also hold the key to righting the mistake that nature made long ago which could lead to our ultimate downfall.

Marsha Hunt and the few who become her close companions have a month to safeguard the couple and return them to the French Alps. The journey which follows leads them to some unusual parts of the world where they encounter unexpected and astonishing events. They gain a glimpse of a different world, of how things could have been and for Dr. Marsha Hunt surprising and unforeseen happenings which fulfill her research.
On the final day, the purpose of the couple is made clear, extraordinary in itself, it makes sense of everything. It explains the reasons for the path humans have taken, why we are on the verge of annihilation and how the course of human history is about to be changed.
